Spire is delighted to be chosen to support a well-known Worcestershire charity with critical IT Support

Sight Concern Worcestershire is the only charity dedicated exclusively to improving the lives of people with sight loss in the county. Sight Concern Worcestershire has been supporting people who are blind and partially sighted since 1880. The charity is available to anyone who is facing sight loss, so individuals do not have to face the challenges on their own.

IT Support

Spire has been supporting the charity Sight Concern in Worcestershire with their telecoms requirements for many years and was recently asked to tender to support the IT services at their headquarters located in Sansome Walk Worcester. Following a review of the tenders received, Spire was awarded the contract to support the charities IT support requirements. We are very much looking forward to working with Sight Concern, assisting with their IT support requirements, and planning.

Katy Wakefield Office Manager at Sight Concern says:

“Spire already provides Sight Concern Worcestershire with telephony and internet support, and we are thrilled that they can now provide us with IT support too. It’s great to work with a local company that really understands our requirements and provides us with a first-class service.”

Some interesting facts you may not know about the charity and its origin in the county since 1880.

  • Sight Concern are an entirely independent charity and have to raise all their own funds to be able to provide the range of services they offer.
  • After the First World War the charity became the Worcestershire Association for the Blind and the charity played a part in helping to rehabilitate men who had lost their sight through exposure to gas.
  • In 1986 the charity bought its first premises. A first-floor flat at 13 Wylds Lane, above the premises owned by the Worcester Talking Newspaper.
  • By 2001 the charity had outgrown Wylds Lane and a successful fundraising campaign saw the purchase of the Bradbury Centre, the much larger premises located on Samsome Walk which the charity owns today.
  • The ongoing challenges of being self-funded has not stopped the charity in the past and it continues to grow and develop its services. With the advances in digital technology, the charity recognises there are some incredible opportunities ahead and it plans to embrace these and help people with sight loss take advantage of the independence that this can bring them.
