City Signs Telecoms Migration

The Client

Now firmly established in Worcester and with two of Horace’s children at the helm, Darren and Deanne Wilkins have grown City Signs to be the region’s leading signage specialist. Their 2,700sq ft Worcestershire HQ houses a visitor showroom, a design studio, two digital print rooms, a clean assembly area and a vehicle workshop.

The Challenge

City Signs has been a telephony client of Spire’s for years. We’d been providing the business with a Horizon telecoms solution, however despite the many positives of Horizon we considered the 3CX platform would be a better fit for the next term. We recommended 3CX due to how the system is priced based on the volume of simultaneous calls rather than extension licenses. Like the Horizon platform the 3CX also provides video conferencing capabilities, document sharing and Microsoft Teams integration as well as a mobile client which means you can be available on your office number anywhere. Additionally, the clever mobile app allows users to change their status and see the status of colleagues whether they are in a meeting or on a call for example.

City Signs took on our recommendation and booked in a migration from Horizon to 3CX. We were also able to use their existing HD Voice Polycom handsets which kept the costs even lower.

Additionally, we put in place a new SoGEA (Single order generic ethernet access) which provided the network connectivity, and then installed the SBC (Session Border Controller) into their comms cab to allow for the phones to work and connect to their 3CX instance which is hosted in the cloud.

We then ported the business numbers across from their Horizon into 3CX which can take up to 30 mins but was done within 3 minutes. Our 3CX specialist, Jon then configured these numbers to act how the customer required from the new system so calls flow through the company to ensure the customer’s requirements are handled efficiently.
