As tensions continue to rise throughout Europe, it is important for UK companies and organizations of all sizes be proactive about cyber security. The NCSC’s (National Cyber Security Centre) CEO has advised that every business should take precautions now before they’re needed later; otherwise, you could find yourself at a severe disadvantage should hackers inevitably strike.
What’s happening at the moment?
The NCSC is not aware of any current specific threats to UK organisations in relation to events happening around Europe, but there has been a historical pattern involving cyber-attacks on countries such as Ukraine which could have international consequences.
Businesses are encouraged to:
- Review the NCSC actions to take when the cyber threat is heightened incl. Checking your system patching, Verifying access controls, Ensuring defences are working, Logging and monitoring, Reviewing your backups, Incident planning, Checking your internet footprint, Phishing response, Third party access, NCSC services and Briefing your wider organisation
- Review the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) guidance on how organisations can improve their cyber resilience
- Download WCRC’s free Little Book of Cyber Scams, to help better understand the threat and the practical steps you can take to mitigate the risk
- Consider WCRC’s series of short animations designed to help your organisation follow basic steps, to make your business safer
- Report any cyber incidents to the Action Fraud, national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime
